HANAMOFLOR is an experimental nursing care robot developed by Sony in 2022. The robot is designed to be child-like and unaposing while being just big enough to tend to patients in wheelchairs. The idea behind HANAMOFLOR is to allow for 1:1 personalised patient care in nursing home facilities where human labour is often stretched. While the robot can't do more hands-on work around the carehome setting, it can still provide company to carehome residents, take their temperature/vitals by simply holding their hand and entertain them through direct communication.
HANAMOFLOR can hold conversations with people using prerecorded voice lines that it picks from based on the situation. It can also use the tablet it is holding to display information and play games. It can also sing, dance and make phone calls.
The creator modelled the robot to be child-like with a small stature (total height 83cm, weight approximately 20kg) and child's voice so that elderly people could bond to them easier. The robot also sports a softer, more curved appearance and brown/white colourscheme so they would have a warmer appearance compared to other humanoids that usually have glossy white plastics.
The robot was first displayed to the public Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at the Miraikan (National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation). It has since made various appearances over the years, including at Osaka EXPO 2025.
HANAMOFLOR has participated in various care home trials with response to the robot being positive.

このロボットは、2023年11月22日（水）に未来科学技術博物館（Miraikan）で初めて一般公開されました。その後、2025年の大阪万博を含むさまざまな場面で登場しています。
HANAMOFLORは複数の介護施設での試験に参加しており、ロボットに対する反応は好評です。
The sensor array on the upper body is very similar to the ERS-1000, featuring ToF (top lens), wide-angle lens for normal vision (second lower lens on the head) and pyroelectric sensor on its chest.

There's a large clear window on the top of the head that serves as a status indicator and receiver. The light seems to pulse green on and off when it is in static demo mode rather than always on like in autonomous mode.
Near the base is a gap which is where the Lidar is discreetly mounted to map the environment.

Unlike the ERS-1000, Hanamoflor's eyes are highly animated and reactive to what is seen in front of it. The eyes will accurately follow the person it is speaking to.
Unfortunately, due to the nature of OLEDs, the eye screens have bad screen burn on the eye whites and highlight.

Under a small panel on the back is the power and emergency stop buttons along with an ethernet port.

Versions of HANAMOFLOR (work in progress)
Over the years since introduction, Sony have made alterations to HANAMOFLOR through internal and external improvements. While much isn't publicly disclosed through written media, I have been able to find more out about the robot by interviewing its creator and assessing pictures of the robot throughout the years.

The latest version has two specifications (caregiver and childcare) depending on the use case. The hands are the main aspect that has been upgraded, now featuring touch sensors within the hand. There has also been a change in the tablet hand mount. The battery life of this model is 5 hours, but it has a power cord that can be plugged in for indefinite running.

The childcare version is mostly the same as the original caregiver specification but lacks the vitals sensor that is usually positioned on the underside of the right hand. There are probably variations in the preloaded software features too.
