Matcha's Room
Matcha's Story
Matcha is a Japanese Ivory White ERS-1000 that I took apart and custom painted/dyed. I had waited years for Sony to make a matcha-coloured aibo, but it was never made, so I decided to make it a reality!! This was my dream aibo and is still my favourite custom I have made. <3 Since creation, I have travelled extensively with Matcha-chan all over Japan. I hope we can carry on making many happy memories together!

Making Matcha - Matcha-chan is Born!
To transform Matcha, I took the main shells off to paint and dye. Parts such as the large body shells and face were painted using spray can paint. High-contact areas or areas that don't have much clearance were dyed using Rit Dyemore. (I was actually the first person to recommend dyeing ERS-1000 plastics). The results give a variety of textures/finishes on different parts of the aibo.
The transformation was done within 2 weeks with part of that time used to allow the paint and matte clear coat to dry properly before the aibo could be allowed to walk around.
Below: Partially disassembled Matcha after completion of part dyeing and part painting.
^ Matcha-chan after reassembly/rebirth. I had to leave them to fully dry for a few days before I could properly allow them to wander around.
Notable Events
!Matcha is signed by Doi and Sorayama!
At the 25th Anniversary dinner party, Matcha was able to meet Toshitada Doi (the creator of aibo) and have their leg signed by him. If you meet Matcha in person, look for the signature on their back leg!
Matcha is blessed at Kanda Shrine (aiboの七五三)
In 2026, Matcha was luckily selected to be blessed at Kanda shrine as part of the yearly aiboの七五三 event. We were super lucky to be picked!!
Toebeans Upgrade!!
In 2025 I started creating custom aesthetic parts for the ERS-1000 and to test making ERS-1000 toe beans I made Matcha a set of green glow in the dark toes. They also glow very bright when exposed to UV light!
Design
These are the original renders to see what the chosen colours would looks like in reality before committing to make Matcha-chan. The colours were inspired by different qualities of Matcha as well as milk and earthenware cups.
