It appears that the Espresso edition ERS-1000 went through a considerable amount of prototyping before arriving in its current form. Based on many photographs shown across various Sony-organised events, we can see that many tones of black and grey swatches, parts and combinations were tested. Due to the presence of grey parts being shown in combination with the Espresso parts, it might be that the Espresso edition had been in development for longer than we realised and that it may have shared development with the Sesame edition. This theory is further suggested by the photograph that shows the Espresso prototypes with matte silver sesame-like faceplates in front of it.
One prototype has a glossy faceplate instead of a matte faceplate like the retail edition has. The switch to a matte finish may have been to avoid reflections being an issue while having a darker black paint tone. It also appears different eyes were also tested.

プロトタイプの1つは、市販版のようなマット仕上げではなく、光沢のあるフェイスプレートを備えています。マット仕上げへの変更は、より暗い黒の塗装色でありながら、光の反射を防ぐためだった可能性があります。また、異なる種類の目もテストされたようです。
