I wanted to start experimenting using molds to create aibo parts, but I had never used resin or molds before so needed something easy to start with... The 3xx eyes are very simple - they are literally adhesive backed plastic gemstones stuck to the aibo's face. So I thought I would start here.
At first I started with simple impression molds made from Oyumaru I bought at Daiso. I've made a full guide on how to do this, but essentially you heat the plastic Oyumaru in boiling hot water until it becomes pliable, and then you push the OEM eye parts into the Oyumaru face-down to create the impression mold. Doing this was fine for creating the first ERS-3xx eyes, but I found the mold to be inaccurate and hard to control height thickness of each eye.
I soon switched to making a silicone mold and I found that this method was easier for creating more accurately shaped eyes.

AIBOのパーツを作るためにモールドを使って実験を始めたいと思いましたが、樹脂やモールドを使うのは初めてだったので、簡単なものから始める必要がありました。3xxシリーズの目は非常にシンプルで、文字通りAIBOの顔に接着剤付きのプラスチック製ジェムストーンを貼り付けたものです。そこで、まずここから始めることにしました。
最初は、ダイソーで購入したオユマルを使って簡単な印象モールドを作りました。この方法については完全なガイドを作成しましたが、基本的にはオユマルを沸騰したお湯で加熱して柔らかくし、OEMの目パーツを表面を下にしてオユマルに押し込んで印象モールドを作ります。この方法は最初のERS-3xxの目を作るのには問題ありませんでしたが、モールドの精度が低く、各目の高さや厚みをコントロールするのが難しいことがわかりました。
その後、シリコンモールドに切り替えたところ、この方法の方がより正確な形状の目を作るのに簡単だと感じました。
