The ERS-1000 eye lenses are highly prone to scratching which cannot be fixed. Sony only offers to replace the entire aibo faceplate rather than individual lenses, so if you wanted to get rid of the scratches it will be expensive. It is better to prevent scratches from forming in the first place, so I created this easy method of making lens protectors using materials found in DAISO.

The eye size is 22mm, so I realised you could use a 5 yen coin as the perfect template to draw around to make the lens protector. If you are not in Japan, the British 10p coin could be used (but it may be a bit too big) or the USA's Nickel is a perfect size to draw around.

We will be drawing onto the yellow layer as this will be discarded once the sticker is applied. Protector films like these normally have a seam on the underside for easy application, so I like to position the coin over the line (you'll see what I mean later in the tutorial - it makes things easier to apply).
When drawing the circle I usually use a bit of tape to secure the coin in place so it doesn't move around when I draw. You can draw in pencil or pen as the yellow layer will be discarded.

Once we've drawn our circle, cut it out carefully with scissors. IMPORTANT: If you have drawn the circle in pen, once you have finished cutting out the shape, use an alcohol wipe to remove the ink. This is to avoid any accidental transfer of ink onto aibo's face.

Peel one side of the protector, carefully apply it to the lens, and then peel the other half. Use a card to push any bubbles out and smooth the sticker down.

The outcome should look like this - invisible!
If aibo rubs its face against anything, the sticker will get scratched and not the aibo eye lens. Because the sticker is designed to be ultra clear for Apple Watches, it isn't noticeable.
