The black sesame edition has two known prototypes that have been shown at Aibo Fan Meeting events. There has also been faceplates and grey shells shown during the Espresso edition's Fan Meeting introduction, which suggests that the two special edition colours may have been developed alongside each other. The two prototype sesame aibos are very similar to the retail units, with the main difference being the tone of grey used on both and slightly different faceplates. there is also a picture showing one prototype demonstrating both white and grey feet.
