The nose ornament is one part that Sony has never tried offering in different colours. Its also a part that incurred a lot of paint wear and scratches over the aibo's time exploring, so I was curious if I could make replacements of such a small part.
It is more challenging than it seems at first glance - the part is surprisingly thin and has to be near perfect in order for the camera module to slot in behind it. Also if the piece is too thick or off-shaped, it can cause issues with the nose fitting through the faceplate hole and interfere with the camera's view.

My first attempts were using a 2-part mold made from Daiso Oyumaru. I managed to capture the detail and shape of the front and back of the nose part, but it was uneven with a lot of excessive flash around it. It just wasn't ideal.
I then switched mold material and got more luck, but it was still a challenge. The first mold was proving to be a pain to work with as it too was given slightly misshapen parts. I then made a 3rd mold and this gave me near perfect output - but it was a chore filling the mold without air pockets creating holes in the part.

The 3 parts on the left are the final nose pieces I have made. One fits the faceplate and camera perfectly, but the other two have misshapen camera pegs that stop the two parts slotting together. I could probably sand the pegs away to make them fit, but Im probably going to switch material again. The nose piece is very thin, so I want to make something more durable.

しかし、空気の溜まりによって部品に穴があいてしまうため、使える部品を手に入れるのに苦労しました。
左側の3つのパーツが、最終的に作ったノーズピースです。1つはフェイスプレートとカメラにぴったりフィットしますが、他の2つはカメラの突起部分が変形していて、2つのパーツがうまく噛み合いません。突起部分をやすりで削ってフィットさせることもできますが、おそらくまた素材を変えることになるでしょう。ノーズピースはとても薄いので、もっと耐久性のあるものを作りたいと思っています。
