Prototype briefly shown in the background of a Japanese TV documentary in 2017 about aibo's development. This prototype was shown being assembled at the Sony factory in Koda and later the prototype was shown being used for testing various features, such as object recognition and navigation.
The prototype looks like a retail ERS-1000, but has a black faceplate, ear swivel hubs, tail hub and camera ornament. The ear hub on this unite is unique in that it is clear transparent rather than the standard black. A sticker on its side says 125.
