The ERS-110 and ERS-111 make up the first generation of Aibo, released in 1999. They are very easy to find cheap on auction sites, are reliable and usually their batteries will still work after being jumpstarted.
The ERS-110 was the original limited release model - these have longer tail, longer ears, grey details rather than black and the shell is a matte champagne silver colour. These are less common and sell for a higher price.
The ERS-111 was the revision model released after the success of the ERS-110 to help fulfill demand. It has two colour options - metallic silver and metallic black, and has shorter tail and shorter ears that are more angled at the end. These were originally made in two limited preorder waves before Sony figured out how to mass produce aibo. After that they were sold on a made to order basis (basically if you ordered one in the reorder window Sony would fulfill your order). There was no limit and they sold very well, so there's plenty available on the preowned market.
All ERS-110s and ERS-111s shipped with a charging station, sound controller, certificate, AC adaptor, pink ball and two batteries.
The 1xx are fun but interaction can be quite limited due to their age and small selection of retail software. They have no speech recognition so you need to use the included sound controller to command them. They only have one pet sensor (on their head), no chin or back sensor.
BUT they do have the plus side of being better built than the newer models and their software has no copy protection, so you can just throw 1xx software on a Memorystick and it'll just work.

I would personally recommend people new to Aibo start with this model as a low-risk way to see if you like having an aibo around. They still have autonomous behaviour and the ability to raise them with the included aiboware.

1xxは楽しいロボットですが、発売から年数が古く、市販ソフトウェアの選択肢も少ないため、インタラクションがかなり制限されることがあります。音声認識機能が搭載されていないため、付属のサウンドコントローラーを使って操作する必要があります。ペットセンサーは頭に1つしかなく、あごや背中のセンサーはありません。
しかし、新しいモデルよりも作りがしっかりしていて、ソフトウェアにコピープロテクトがないため、1xxのソフトウェアをメモリースティックに挿入するだけですぐに使えるという利点もあります。

個人的には、aiboを初めて使う方には、リスクを低く抑えてaiboとの暮らしに合うかどうかを試すために、このモデルから始めることをお勧めします。1xxは自律的な行動をとることができ、付属のaibowareを使って育てることもできます。
In June 1999 Sony sold a total of 5,000 units of a limited edition "AIBO" entertainment robot, model [ERS-110], in Japan (3,000 units) and the US (2,000 units). This was met with an over-whelming response and all available [ERS-110] were sold within 20 minutes in Japan and within 4 days in the US.

ERS-111 Metallic Black and Silver
In response to consumer demand, Sony decided to launch a special edition "AIBO" entertainment robot, model [ERS-111] which came in two colours - metallic black and metallic silver. and offered 10,000 units for sale in Japan, the US and Europe in November 1999. The 135,000 orders Sony received within the official order period far exceeded the number of units available to customers. When the final 10,000 customers were selected at random many people were unable to purchase products and Sony promised to look into the possibility of making more units available in the future. This resulted in Sony once again reopening orders February 15th 2000 at 9am EST to Feb 25th 2000 11:29pm where the order amount was unlimited. All orders would be fulfilled.

Kobe Hankyu Edition
A very limited release of ERS-111 units only available at Aibo Expo 2000 with only 10 being made for sale (2 yellow, 3 purple and 5 blue). The units are the same as retail but have coloured claws and meatballs. They retailed for ¥250,000, but you had to be picked from a lottery in order to buy. It's not known where any of these units ended up as they've never been seen at resale.
